Art Books

Many artists would like to publish a book of their work, but they don’t know how to do it. Self-publishing is the answer. And to make it look professional, finding an experienced art-book designer is step 1. At Longfeather we have designed quite a number of art books over the years, and won a few design prizes doing it.

Is self-publishing too expensive, with all those color images? That was true in the past, but not any more. Technological advances have made it quite affordable.

If your book is aimed at a wide audience, you may want to find a commercial publisher. But that can be a hard sell. However, if your book is for a smaller circle of readers—family members, relatives, friends, people who have bought your work, your art gallery—then self-publishing is the answer. And think about this: if the book is a retrospective collection, it becomes a kind of memoir, all the more valuable as a keepsake to those who know and love you.

Keep in mind that there is quite a bit more to designing a book than determining its visual aspects. It’s a computerized operation requiring special skills. It’s also a custom-design process—there are no standard templates. Nevertheless the cost of good design can be quite reasonable, especially if the manuscript and art are properly prepared by the writer. That’s not so hard, and we can tell you how to do it.

Your art it is an important part of your legacy. Collected in a fine book, it will be cherished by your family and passed down to future generations. Longfeather Book Design can help you make it so.
